Drug Licensing Authority suspended by Lieutenant Governor

The Puducherry Drug Licensing Authority, Rajkumar, was placed under suspension after he failed to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is looking into complaints of irregularities in licensing of drug manufacturing units and chemists shops. The suspension order was issued by the Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh on Friday.

The CBI inquiry is based on complaints of corrupt practices by the Drug Licensing Authority in the licensing of manufacturing of drugs as well as chemist shops, reliable sources said.

The CBI has been investigating the case for a month now. CBI sleuths have conducted raids at the office of Puducherry Drug Licensing Authority at Murungapakkam. Drug inspector of Karaikal Ananthakrishnan has been to CBI office in Chennai for interrogation.

However, Rajkumar, Drug Licensing Authority, did not appear before the CBI, despite being called. He applied for medical leave and even after waiting for a month Rajkumar did not come forward to assist the investigating agency, sources said.
