Seven Kerala students remanded

A group of seven engineering students of a self-financing college near Rasipuram, in Namakkal district, accused of murdering their junior in a gang war, was remanded to judicial custody on Saturday.

According to Rasipuram DSP S T Rajan, “The seven students were produced before the Judicial Magistrate who remanded them. They were lodged in prison.”

Of the seven, J Mithun Thomas (21) of Perumpallimandalam, Malappuram and J Danis Johns (21) of Srikanthapuram, Chemmananthatti, Kannur were lodged in Central Prison, Salem while the others–M Ashwanth and J Jijo Joseph of Kozhikode, Davis K Cherian of Pathanamthitta, J Sebin Johns of Kannur, A Sharath, of Malappuram–were admitted at the juvenile home in Paramathi, the DSPsaid. The group were accused of murdering a junior student P Deepak of Kannur by chasing him in a car on Thursday. Deepak’s friend J Dinesh of Ernakullam, who sustained severe injuries, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Salem.
