A remand prisoner committed suicide by hanging at the Coimbatore Central Prison on Sunday.
According to sources, the deceased, Babu (46) of Vinayakar Koil Street in Pollachi, who was involved in a murder case in 2011, was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison as remand prisoner.
His body was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
Sources said two prison warders were placed under suspension by Coimbatore Central Prison Superintendent S Rajendran in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Prisons JK Tripathy, visited the Coimbatore Central Prison on Sunday and held discussions with Rajendran and other senior prison officials on creation of industrial units like tailoring, book binding and powerlooms on the prison premises.
He also enquired the prisoners about the facilities available for them.
