Accused slits arm in Madurai court

An accused arrested in connection with the Advani Pipe Bomb case created a flutter by slitting his arm in front of the magistrate, at Thirumangalam near here on Wednesday.

According to police, Jahir Hussain (27), of Thirumangalam, was brought to the magistrate court from the Madurai Jail for extension of judicial custody. When he was produced before magistrate Panneer Selvam at 12.30 pm, Jahir Hussain cried in the court that he was not a terrorist and demanded the magistrate to grant him bail on his own surety, but his plea was turned down. All of a sudden, Jahir Hussain slit his left arm with a piece of blade which he had hid in his mouth. As he was bleeding, police rushed him to hospital. But he refused to take treatment.

Later the magistrate warned him not to resort to such acts and extended his custody till April 23.
