Puducherry plans grand reception for Mata

Elaborate arrangements are being made to smoothly conduct Satguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s scheduled visit to Puducherry on April 15, co-ordinator Ramesh said here on Thursday.

Several thousand devotees from Puducherry as well as from neighbouring Tamil Nadu districts of Villupuram and Cuddalore are expected to gather at the Lawspet helipad ground on the day, he said, adding that Amma - as she is affectionately called - will give darshan and blessings to the last devotee before starting her journey to her next destination.

Ramesh said Mata Amritanandamayi is expected to arrive at Puducherry around 6 pm and a reception would be accorded to her. She would then proceed to the helipad grounds at Lawspet.

The public programme would begin around 6.30 pm and would include satsang, bhajans and meditation. Darshan for devotees would begin after 8.30 pm. Ramesh said the programme would also include extending the humanitarian projects of Amma to the people. The helipad ground is being readied for the visit. Free food would be provided for all devotees attending the programme. Parking for vehicles would be arranged at Tagore Arts College grounds, Ramesh said.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy will also participate in the function and address the gathering. Mata Amritnandamayi’s speech at the 150th birthday celebrations of Swami Vivekananda at Red Fort, New Delhi early this year would be released during the public function.

The  Mata Amritanandamayi mutt is involved in multifarious social, charitable and welfare activities all over the world.

The mutt undertook the largest Tsunami rehabilitation project by spending Rs 200 crore and constructing 6,200 houses in TamiL Nadu, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The international headquarters of the mutt’s educational activities, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University at Ettimadai, Coimbatore, is emerging as one of the highly ranked private universities in India.

Amma has now announced massive public cleanliness drive called “Amala Bharatam” to create awareness on cleanliness. The mutt is planning to construct public toilets and installing trash cans in schools.

It is claimed that Amma has counseled and consoled over 40 million people by listening to their problems and reaching out to every section of society.
