A 24-year-old woman was arrested by the Krishnagiri police for duping public posing herself as a police constable.

The accused was identified as Kavitha (24) from Baleguri village near Krishnagiri. An SSLC qualified woman, Kavitha used to pose herself as a woman police in the traffic wing and collect money from people travelling on two and four-wheelers on the outskirts of Krishnagiri.

Primarily, she used to stand with her two wheeler on the Krishnagiri-Kuppam Road and check vehicles passing on the road. When the drivers failed to produce vehicle documents, she used to threaten them to pay up to avoid booking cases.

The fraud came to light when she charged Raja (50) on Thursday. Raja was on his two-wheeler when she intercepted him and asked for documents. When he failed to produce documents, she forced him to pay `3,600. Sensing foul play, Raja informed Maharajakadai police. The police laid a trap and sent a patrol team to the Krishnagiri-Kuppam Road in mufti. The police team caught Kavitha red handed when she was collecting money from the passers by near Pothinaickenpalli.
