PASIC official held for swindling Rs 32 lakh

The officials of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department arrested an employee of the Puducherry Agro Services and Industries Corporation (PASIC) in connection with alleged financial irregularities.

Vigilance sleuths said that Ananthapadmanabhan, the official in charge of the canteen in PASIC, had allegedly failed to submit the details of account of 2006-2011, to the tune of Rs 32 lakh.

The official allegedly withdrew Rs 6 lakh from PASIC’s bank account.

The irregularities were noticed during an audit conducted recently, following which a complaint was filed by Dayalan, one of the managers of PASIC.

Ananthapadmanabhan was suspended following this.

A team of the Vigilance police arrested Ananthapadmanabhan at his residence in Vanidasan Street in Venkata Nagar.

Cases have been registered against the official under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) of IPC and Sections (13)I(c) and 13(2)of the Vigilance Act.

He was produced before court, which remanded him to 15 days custody in the Kalapet Central Prison.
