PMU signs MoU with Ghana-based University

Periyar Maniammai University (PMU), Tanjore, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana, with a student exchange programme. This is the first time that PMU signs a MoU with a West African country-based university.

Addressing the press in the city, Haruna Yakubu, vice-chancellor of UDS, said, “The MoU will help both the universities provide better education and knowledge to students through exchange programmes. By joining hands, we will strive to alleviate poverty.”

Dr N Ramachandra, Vice-Chancellor, PMU, said, “with this MoU we will make efforts to take people of both the nations to greater heights.”

Speaking to reporters, Dr K Veeramani, Chancellor, PMU, said, “Both the universities believe in social justice, and so we could exchange ideas. Also, Periyar Maniammai University’s Periyar PURA (Providing Urban facilities in Rural Areas) is to be taken to Ghana in collaboration with UDS.”

Periyar African Foundation, established to spread the vision and mission of Thanthai Periyar in African countries, acted as a bridge between University for Development Studies and Periyar Maniammai University.
