Trio ties woman to loot valuables

A three-member gang tied up a woman with a rope in broad daylight here on Friday and decamped with valuables.

Sources said that Santhamani (35), was living with her second daughter Keethrana (16), in a rental house at Kamadenu Nagar, Villarasampatti, as he got divorce from her husband Kadhar a decade ago. Kadhar was living with the couple’s first daughter Savitha in Chennai.

The mother-daughter settled in the house just a month and a half ago.

As Keerthana had gone to her grandmother’s house at Kanchikoil, Santhamani was alone at home on Friday. Meanwhile, three unidentified persons in the age group of 25 to 30 entered Santhamani’s house around 9 am in the guise of attending repair works to the RO Plant. They then tied up her with a rope and robbed 3 sovereign chain, an LCD monitor and a scooty and escaped from the spot.

Town DSP C Periyaiah, who held an inquiry, said that the woman told him that they did not show knife or any other sharp weapons. Neither the trio assaulted her. “We suspect that the youths must be local residents. The trio will be nabbed soon,” he added.

Police said that she did not raise any alarm though many houses were in the area. In fear, she gave away all the valuables without resisting the trio’s attempt.
