Man kills grandpa over land demand

A 24-year-old man and his friend were arrested on Sunday for allegedly murdering his grandfather near Paramathi-Velur and looting valuables from the victim’s house.

Police said that V Ramasamy (70) a resident of Paramathi Velur, owned two acres of farmland. His  grandson Krishnamurthi (24) of Paundamangalam,  had been pestering him to transfer the piece of land in his name. However, Ramasamy refused to accept Krishnamurthi’s demand. Irked by this the grandson decided to kill Ramasamy and sought the support of his friend P Saikumar (34), of South Nallipalayam, Velur. As planned on Friday, the duo slit the throat, hacked, smashed the septuagenarian with a stone and murdered him. Later, they looted valuables in a bid to make police doubt that it was a murder for gain.

However, on Sunday, Krishnamurthi surrendered before the Koppanapalayam village administrative officer, Geetha and based on his information, Sasikumar was also arrested. Krishnamurthi stated that he had committed the offence following his grandfather’s refusal to transfer two acres of land to him. Instead, Ramasamy was insisting to give a share to his daughter (Krishnamurti’s aunt).
