Gang mimics Alagiri’s kin, cons DMK leader

The DMK urban district treasurer ‘Misa’ M Pandian has become the latest victim of the Namakkal-based gang that has been cheating public by mimicking the voice of Alagiri’s daughter-in law Anusha.

In this case, the gang had talked like Anusha to the DMK functionary and vanished after taking a car from him.

Pandian on Monday through a petition has sought the help of the police to get back his stolen vehicle.

Pandian, one of the loyalists of former Union Minister and DMK’ south zone organizer M K Alagiri, in his complaint stated that the gang mimicked the voice of Alagiri’s daughter-in-law Anusha over the phone and took away his car.

‘Misa’ Pandian said that he received a call from an unknown mobile phone number on April 9. The person who spoke in a woman’s voice told Pandian that she was Anusha, wife of Durai Dayanidhi, and that her car had broke down in Karur while she was on the way to Coimbatore.

“The person asked me to send a car to Karur immediately. The voice sounded like that of Anusha and I sent my Chevrolet car to Karur through my driver. After reaching Karur on the night of April 9, my driver handed over the car to the a man who was waiting in a bakery shop as informed during the phone communication,” Pandian said.

“Thereafter, I grew suspicious over the whole affair and cross checked the matter with Durai Dayanidhi. Then I found out that the gang had cheated me. Immediately, my son and his friends went to Karur and called the person on the same mobile number claiming themselves to be car exchange sellers. The person, who attended the call, believed my son’s words and came to a particular place with the car. On seeing us, suddenly he abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the spot. We recovered the car and brought it to Madurai on April 14,” Pandian told Express.

Deputy Commissioner of Police K Ferozkhan Abdulla received the petition and directed the officials to file a case in Crime branch wing.

In course of the investigation, the police found out that the numbers that were used during the conversation with Pandian had been switched off.

However, the DMK functionaries also told the police that the same gang had also tried to cheat two others in a similar fashion.

The DMK functionaries doubt that the gang was functioning from areas like Namakkal, Karur, Aravakkurichi and Kulithalai.

It may be recalled that the Chennai city police arrested a youth in June last year on the charge of cheating a cine director by imitating the voice of Kiruthiga, daughter-in-law of DMK Treasurer M K Stalin.
