In a shocking incident, a one-day-old female baby went missing from the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (AMGH) maternity ward, on Thursday.
Sources said, S Deivanai (25) wife of Selvam, a farm coolie, delivered a female child at Moovanur PHC on Wednesday. However, as the woman’s condition worsened she was shifted to the AMGH on Thursday.Her mother-in-law accompanied her.
Around 11 am, Deivanai regained consciousness and asked her mother-in-law to get tea. Lakshmi who was holding the baby tried to hand over the baby to Deivanai. But a middle-aged woman volunteered to take care of the baby till she returned. Believing her, Lakshmi handed over the baby to the woman. When she returned, she was shocked to see the woman and the baby missing.
