Sudden showers lash Fort City, drench people in joy

Though the town was bright in the day, around 1.30 pm the the sky became overcast and there was a heavy downpour in the evening, bringing joy to the people.  In the morning many roads remained deserted as the mercury touched 40.5 degree Celsius (104.9 Fahrenheit).  The sudden rain that started around 1.30 pm continued for nearly 30 minutes.

People feel that the Thursday rain, which was wide spread across the district, would help recharge ground water level to some extent and augment water supply.

Sources said that the city recorded a rainfall of 13.4 mm on Thursday.

The shower accompanied by gusty winds uprooted an electric pole and a tree near the EB Office in Sathuvachari. An autorickshaw was also damaged after a tree fell on the vehicle. Showers were experienced at other parts of the district also, at various point of time.

It may be noted that Wednesday was the hottest day with a temperature of 42 degree Celsius (107.6 Fahrenheit).
