CPI protests against power tariff hike

Activists of the Communist Party of India, led by party’s State secretary Viswanathan, staged a demonstration in front of the Marapalam Electricity Department sub-station here, protesting against the hike in power tariff on Tuesday.  The party functionaries held protest at various places in Puducherry and urged the government to withdraw the hike.

Viswanathan said the hike added to the burden of the common man, who has been struggling with price rise of essential commodities. The Central and State governments were doing little to check the inflation and the hike in prices of petroleum products, which have a cascading effect on the prices of essential items, he said.

The CPI activists raised slogans against the Electricity Department and the government urging immediate rollback.
