Four of a family, including the husband of a woman, were booked on charges of dowry harassment here on Tuesday.
According to police, Kavitha alias Nirmaladevi (24), a resident of Tirupur was married to Prabu alias Mani (30) on June 1 last year.
However following a family dispute over the dowry issue, frequent quarrels broke out between the couple.
Meanwhile in a complaint to the Tirupur All Women Police Station, Nirmala said, “My parents gave 25 sovereigns of jewels and `5 lakh in cash as dowry during our marriage.
However my husband and his family members were torturing me demanding more dowry for the past many months.”
She alleged that his husband, her mother-in-law Thangamani, her brother in-law Durai Palanisamy and his wife Nithya were harassing her for dowry and also issued threats.
Based on a complaint from Nirmala a case has been registered at the All-Women Police Station and further investigations are on into the case.
