Mentally ill woman rescued

A 23-year-old woman, who was suffering from a mentally illness, was rescued by police and later admitted to the government-run Ujjawala Home for Women, at Tirupattur.

A 23-year-old woman, who was suffering from a mentally illness, was rescued by police and later admitted to the government-run Ujjawala Home for Women, at Tirupattur.

Raja Panneerselvam, director of the home said, the woman was spotted near the Vellore Collector’s  office on Tuesday morning by Inspector Saraswathi. When she questioned the woman, she said her name was Sharmi and later said her name was Ammu. She was unable to answer questions about her whereabouts.

The woman was handed over to the home in Tirupattur in the evening. Panneerselvam said, her parents or relatives could contact 04161091 or 9443437647 and take her home after producing relevant evidence.
