Critic of freebies, Anbumani offers free education, healthcare

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, who lashed out at the Dravidian parties for promoting “freebie culture”, himself offered to provide free healthcare and education to all if his party is voted to power.

Anbumani’s offers didn’t stop there. He claimed that a ‘PMK government’ can clear all the debts of the State within an year of coming to power. “If the present government can provide an idly for one rupee, why can’t we provide quality education and good health amenities for the same one rupee?... If PMK comes to power, we will not even take that one rupee and will provide education and health for free,” he said, addressing a rally here on Thursday.

Ironically, he lashed out at the Dravidian parties for promoting freebie culture during the same address.

“In the 46 years of Tamil Nadu’s political history, both the Dravidian parties taught people of the State only three cultures — culture, liquor and cinema. What the both parties gave were not freebies but alms,” he said.

Asserting his party’s resolve to put an end to the “liquor culture”, he virtually admitted that alcoholism has risen among his party supporters.

“The districts in which Vanniyars are living such as Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri are found top places in the list of high liquor sales in the state. The same districts are lagging behind in education. To put an end to this, if PMK comes to power, liquor sales will be banned,” he said.

Anbumani also ruled out the possibility of having alliance with other parties in the next Parliamentary elections.
