The RevenAue Divisional Officer (RDO) of Vellore would conduct a sub-divisional magistrate inquest into the death of a 24- year-old woman, who allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her husband’s house in Vellore’s Vallalar Nagar, during the late hours of Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sandhiya, daughter of Rajendran of Arni. She was married to Venkatesan, a BSNL employee, two-and-a-half years ago and had an 18-month-old boy.
Sandhiya, a graduate, had allegedly committed suicide during the late hours of Thursday by hanging herself using her saree. On information, her parents, Lakshmi and Rajendran, a special sub-inspector of police attached to Santhavasal police station, lodged a complaint with the Sathuvachari police suspecting foul play in their daughter’s death.
In her complaint, Lakshmi said Sandhiya had been subjected to humiliation and harassment at the hands of her husband and in-laws. She also claimed that she saw injury marks on Sandhiya’s neck and cheeks. After autopsy at the Government Vellore Medical College and Hospital, the body was handed over to her relatives. Police registered a case.
