Temple fest accident kills 1, injures 4

One person was killed and four others injured when a palanquin they were carrying slipped from their shoulders and fell on them.

Palanquins of seven temples were being brought as part of the Sabthasthanam festival. When the Kannadi Pallakku (glass palanquin) of Ayyarappar temple was taken to Tirupazhanam village on Saturday, the bearers of the palanquin  tried to lift it once again when it accidentally slipped and fell down crushing five of them.

Of the injured, P Rajendran (53) and Thiyagu (33) of Tirupazhanam were rushed to hospital. Rajendran succumbed to injuries. Rajarajan (22), Tirunavukkarasu (32), Jayaraman (24) who were also injured in the accident were treated. Police registered a case.
