Former army man cheats youth of Rs 5 lakh, held

Ranipet police on Thursday arrested an ex-serviceman on charges of cheating an engineering graduate of about Rs 5 lakh, promising him a job in the Railways.

V Ganapathy (27) of Ammur lodged a complaint with the Ranipet police against Kumar (47) of the same village, stating that the latter had cheated him to the tune of Rs 5.15 lakh, promising him a job in the Railways.

Ganapathy, a BE civil engineer, also stated that he had given the money on January 15, 2012, and waited for more than a year, hoping that Kumar would get him the job. However, he failed to keep his promise. Kumar dodged Ganapathy when the latter asked him to return the money, said sub-inspector of police of Ranipet Station, Senthil Kumar.

A case was registered against Kumar and he was arrested. He was remanded to the Vellore Central Prison for Men.
