Man overtakes CJI's car, arrested

The Coimbatore police have arrested the driver of a leading garment shop on charges of rash driving and for overtaking the convoy of the Chief Justice of India, P Sathasivam, at Karumathampatty near here on Saturday night.

The Chief Justice of India,  after attending a function in his home town Erode, was on his way to Coimbatore on Saturday. Around 8.30 p.m., a rashly driven car overtook the Chief Justice’s convoy at Karumathampatty.

Ramanathapuram inspector, who was in-charge of the escort team, lodged a complaint with the Karumathampatty police against the car driver who overtook the convoy of the Chief Justice.

Acting on his complaint, Karumathampatty police booked the car driver L Prakash (26) a native of Thanjavur under section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the IPC.  Subsequently the driver was arrested and sent to remand.

Prakash was working as a driver with a leading garment shop chain in the city.

Police said, Prakash drove the car in rash and negligent manner. Further he also overtook the VIP escort.
