137 sovereign stolen from pawn shop

Jewels weighing 137 sovereign were reportedly stolen by unidentified persons from a pawn shop here on Tuesday night.

Police said Thirumani (46), son on Athimuthu, a resident of Palpandi Nagar, owner a pawn shop, ABI Associates, on Jeyaraj Street. He was also involved in auto finance. On Tuesday night, Thirumani had closed the shop and had gone home.

When he returned to open the shop on Wednesday morning, he was shocked to see the front door broken open. When he went inside the shop and checked, he found the drawer and the bureau tampered with a crowbar, which was lying at the spot.

On information from Thirumani, a police team from Thoothukudi North Police station visited the spot and held an enquiry. It was found out that 137 sovereign of jewels had been burgled.
