Two persons were arrested  in connection with the murder of a construction worker near Lawspet on Wednesday night.

Police inspector Ranganathan said Viji alias Katta Viji (36) and Baskar alias Arivamunai Baskar (32) were arrested for murdering their co-worker Selvam (26) following differences over dividing their wages.

Selvam, a resident of Chinna Kottakuppam area of Tamil Nadu, along with Viji and Baskar, was employed at a construction site in Koovathur near Kalpakkam.

The accused duo, Viji and Baskar, picked up a quarrel with Selvam, who had mastered the plan of sharing the money received as wages.

However, the trio got together for drinking at a temple festival in Tamil Nadu area, bordering Puducherry. After consuming liquor, the accused entered into argument with  Selvam, who left for his sister’s house at Karuvadikuppam in Lawspet.

Following this the duo waylaid him and hacked Selvam to death at midnight.

Lawspet inspector Ranganathan and sub inspector  Lenin Bharathi arrested Viji and Baskar, who were in hiding. A motor cycle and the weapons used for murder were seized from them. Both were remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations are on.
