570 fake ration cards seized in July

The district supply office here has cancelled 570 fake ration cards, found to be in use and seized 56 tonnes of ration rice,  being smuggled to other States, in July.

According to the district supply officer Jayasheela, as part the intensive vigilance raid conducted in July in each taluk, led by her and the sleuths attached to the Civil Supplies CID, 23 vehicles used for smuggling rice were seized and cases were booked against 23 persons involved in the crime.

Three salespersons in the ration shops were also booked for indulging in malpractices and three former salespersons were also arrested.

Any information on activities of smuggling essential goods and fake ration cards would receive awards, Jayasheel aadded.
