DMK man, five others booked on charges of land grabbing

The crime branch of police have registered a case against six persons, including the former DMK town panchayat chairman of Tiruparankundram G Sambath, on charges of land grabbing and cheating here on Thursday.

Sources said that the case was registered based on a complaint from K Ammavasi, a resident of South Street in Keelakuyilkudi, against P Kannan, revenue department employee, relatives P Meenakshi, P Muthulakshmi, P Malarkodi of Vilacheri, K Anatha Kumar of Pasumalai and G Sambath. Meenakshi and Malarkodi were arrested.

Ammavasi in his complaint stated that his family had two acres of land worth around Rs1.5 crore at Thanakkankulam. The land originally belonged to his ancestor Kuppai Muniyandi.

However, in a document prepared in 1943, Kuppai Muniyandi’s name was wrongly put as Kuppaiyandi in the revenue department’s ‘A’ Register.

Meanwhile, Kannan and others prepared documents in the name of Kuppaiyandi transgressing Kuppai Muniyandi’s rights.
