Panel starts hunt for new GRI head

The process of selecting a new Vice Chancellor for the Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) - Deemed University, a Central Government-funded institution in Dindigul, has commenced.

The Centre recently constituted a search-cum-selection committee for appointing the new Vice -chancellor headed by former Union Public Service Commission member E Balagurusamy.

Balagurusamy invited applications from aspirants. Academicians, who have a proven track record of academic and administrative leadership with impeccable character and integrity and have a minimum of 10 years of experience at the rank of a university professor, are invited to send their applications before August 31 to the Registrar (of the university), he said. Aspiring candidates must submit a detailed chronological resume that reflects their qualifications, experience and achievements (not more than five pages) along with a summary of description justifying their suitability for the post. Besides, they must also provide a plan of action for making the university a National Centre of Excellence and a SWOT analysis for self and the GRI. “The GRI is a national university founded on Gandhian Principles to serve the rural people through education, research and training,” he said.

Court Issues Notice

Meanwhile, the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court issued notices to the Joint Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources and to the Chancellor of Gandhigram Rural Institute - Deemed University on a PIL which sought the removal of the Chancellor from the post.
