Jilted lover throws acid on Chennai woman techie

In clear filmy style, a 24-year-old engineering graduate allegedly threw acid on a girl with whom he had fallen in love, on Wednesday night.  The girl, a software engineer based in Chennai, sustained serious burn injuries.

Vinothini (23) of MMG Nagar here, worked in a private firm at Chennai. She had been to Karaikal for the Deepavali holidays.

On Wednesday, when she was proceeding to the Karaikal bus stand to board a Chennai bus with her father Jayapalan, one Suresh (24) of Thiruvettakudi threw acid on her and fled the spot. Vinothini was rushed to the GH here with severe burns on the face. After first-aid, she was referred for further treatment to Chennai. Later, it came to be known that Suresh and Vinothini did their B.Tech at a private engineering college here. Suresh had fallen in a one-sided love affair with Vinothini and wanted to marry her. But, she had rejected the proposal. Upset by this, Suresh had thrown acid on Vinothini. 

Chennai Engineer found dead in lodge

A 30-year-old engineer allegedly committed suicide at a lodge in Thiruchengode on Thursday. S Praveen (30), of Park Town, Chennai, was found dead after he allegedly consumed poison at a room in the lodge where he checked in on Monday. Investigations revealed that he was working in a government department in Mizoram and had come here to visit his relatives.
