VIT donates Rs 40 lakh towards Uttarakhand CM’s relief fund

VIT university has donated Rs 40 lakh towards the Uttarakhand Relief fund. A demand draft was handed over by the vice-president Sankar Viswanathan and the vice-chancellor Professor Raju to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna on Saturday.

Vice Chancellor Raju said, “The multi-day cloudburst which took away 6,000 lives and destroyed 365 homes in Uttrakhand in June this year has been touted as one of the worst natural calamities to hit India since the 2004 tsunami. VIT students, staff, faculty and the management have contributed towards the ‘Chief Minister’s Relief Fund’.

When this calamity took place the students, staff and administrative members on their own accord started collecting funds, he informed. “We then decided to add some more and give this to the Chief Minister”, he said.
