Public foil bid to kidnap realtor

A real estate firm owner, who was reportedly kidnapped by a gang of eight, was rescued by the police here on Sunday.

Police said, Chetti alias Karupannan 48, a realtor of Ammanikondalampatti was returning home on a bike on Saturday night from his farm at Vepillaipatti. While nearing Kulappanaickanoor, a gang of eight persons, who came in a car from the opposite direction, kidnapped him at knife-point and took him away in their vehicle.

When the car reached Panaimarathupati town it slowed down to give way for a lorry coming from the opposite direction. Utilising this, Karuappanan screamed for help and passers by blocked the car and detained  it on the spot. Meanwhile, seven members of the gang managed to escape and one was caught by the public.

On information from the public Panaimarathypatti police, arrived at the spot and  rescued Karupannan. They also arrested the lone member of the gang, who was caught by the publc.

The arrested man identified himself as Prakash (25) of Ponnamapet.

While further interrogations are on, the Superintendent of Police Ashwin M Kotinis formed a special team to investigate the matter.
