Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa will unveil a life-size bronze statue of former Chief Minister and party founder MGR at Donington in Kotagiri on Thursday (January 17).
It will be the first MGR statue in the hill district.
Fulfilling the wish of the Nilgiris AIADMK unit, party leader Jayalalithaa arranged for installing a statue of MGR. The statue will be opened on the occasion of the late leader’s birth anniversary on Thursday.
It may be recalled that the puja was performed to construct a pedestal to install a life-size statue of MGR at Donington junction in Kotagiri on November 26, 2012. The puja was conducted in the presence of AIADMK district secretary K R Arujunan and hundreds of party cadre. Pongal was served to all those who attended the the puja. The installation of the statue was completed recently. Police have made elaborate security arrangements in Kotagiri for the unveiling function.
