Prosecution to reply on January 24

The Principal District and Sessions Judge, C S Murugan, on Friday posted the continuation of reply by the prosecution in the Sankararaman murder case to January 24.

As the Chief Judge sought certain clarifications from the counsels of both the sides, Special Public Prosecutor, N Devadoss, could not conclude his reply on Friday.

Eleven out of the 24 accused, including Junior acharya Vijayendra Saraswati, Sundaresa Iyer and Raghu were present. Senior acharya Jayendra Saraswathi was not present.

Sankararaman, a former employee of Varadarajaperumal temple in Kancheepuram was allegedly murdered in the temple precincts on September 3, 2004. The trial was shifted from Kancheepuram to Puducherry on an order of the Supreme Court, issued on a petition by Jayendra Saraswati in October 2005.
