Cop held for molesting tribal girl

In a shocking incident in Chengelpet, an Armed Reserve police constable was arrested for allegedly molesting an 18-year-old girl of the Irula community in an inebriated state on Saturday.

Police said Hariram Kumar (25), a native of Thoothukudi, was posted at Kancheepuram and was living at Thatanmalai Street, Chinna Natham  in Chengelpet. His father Pandalaraja runs a scrap shop in Thoothukudi. On Thursday night, police said the constable, who had consumed liquor, barged into the house of the girl in Irula Colony when she was reportedly alone, and locked the front door from inside.

Police sources said the man then made passes at the girl. The girl, who was a private company employee, raised an alarm, after which neighbours gathered in front of the house.
