Five fishermen of Rameswaram had a miraculous escape when their mechanised boat sank in mid-sea near Katchativu on Sunday. Fisheries department sources said, 734 mechanised fishing boats ventured into the sea from Rameswaram on Saturday. Meanwhile, a boat accidently hit a rock near Katchativu and the bottom plank suffered major damage. As a result, water started entering into the boat. Therefore, the five inmates of the boat Justin, Pothagar, Misian, Dass and Santhiya, alerted their colleagues who were fishing nearby about their trouble.

Fishermen in two other boats rushed to their rescue. They tied the sinking boat with a rope to theirs and tow-

ed it towards the shore. But  the rope snapped suddenly and the damaged boat started sinking in the sea. Other fishermen shifted the five inmates to their boats and brought them to the shore.

Meanwhile in Pudukkottai, four fishermen from Kottaipattinam were also rescued by another group of fishermen.
