The local unit of the BJP held an agitation to condemn the petrol price hike here on Sunday.
To register their protest, party activists tied a motorcycle to a bullock cart and did rituals. They then took out a rally with the bullock cart from Avvai Thidal in Saram and reached the Kamarajar square. From there they held a demonstration and shouted slogans against the Centre demanding withdrawal of fuel price hike.
Meanwhile, Hindu Munnani activists organised a motor cycle rally seeking protection of temple lands. They wanted the administration to clear the temple properties of encroachers. The activists urged to set up a welfare board for the priests. The rally that started at Venkata Subba Reddiyar statue and culminated at the Eswaran Temple at Ozhukarai.
