University gives Rs 50 lakh relief to Uttarakhand

The SASTRA University on Wednesday dispatched two truck loads of relief materials to Kedarnath for distribution among the flood-hit people of Uttarakhand. Swami Dayananda of Rishikesh Arsha Vidhya Pitham, flagged off the trucks in the presence of R Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The Arsha Vidhya Pitham will arrange for proper distribution of the materials to the affected. The trucks contain 3,000 bags of relief materials. Each bag containing five-kg of wheat flour, two-kg of rice, one-kg of sugar, one-kg of baby food, one-kg milk powder, 250 gms of tea powder, one-kg of dhal, and some biscuits. The cost of each bag is Rs 1,000. The second instalment of 2,000 such bags will leave Sastra campus on July 8.

Vice-Chancellor R Sethuraman will join in the distribution of relief to the affected at Kedarnath from July 10 to July 12.

The value of relief donated by Sastra is around `50 lakh, a release from the university said. Seven bags of relief materials donated by the school children of Kumbakonam are also on the trucks.

TVS Company has offered free transportation of materials from Thanjavur to Rishikesh. EID Parry had given a discount of 25 per cent for sugar purchased from them.
