Fishermen agree to ease tension

The fishermen groups who clashed on Tuesday night resolved to maintain peace at a meeting here on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by sub-collector A Vincent Rayar and attended by Superintendents of Police S Ramaraj, Deivasigamoni and nearly 30 fishermen from the groups belonging to Vampakeerapalayam, Veerampattinam and Nallavadu.

The clash occurred on Tuesday due to objection raised by one group against using of fishing net, which led to assault of three Vampakeerapalayam fishermen. The Veerampattinam group alleged harassment of their women fish vendors in the big market.

The allegations and its counters led to some tension in the meeting, which was quickly defused by top police officers present.
