Ilavarasan committed suicide: Cops

In a new twist in the death of Dalit youth Ilavarasan, the police late on Sunday claimed to have recovered a “missing” suicide note written by him and said there was no foul play in the tragic episode as alleged by his parents and others. “During investigation we found that a suicide note written by Ilavarasan was removed from the spot and concealed by a person before the police (GRP) could go there. We retrieved the 4-page letter in Tamil and have confirmed that the handwriting in it was that of Ilavarasan,” said Dharmapuri SP Asra Garg.

But doubting the authenticity of the police claim, Ilavarsan’s father Elangovan said the handwriting in the note doesn’t seem to match.

“The letter doesn’t appear to have been written with continuity. We’d asked for a CBI probe because we lost faith in the police. Even if Ilavarasan had committed suicide, political leaders must be made accountable for it. Seven persons were booked when Divya’s father committed suicide, why has no case been filed after my son died,” he asked.
