Two phones seized from Vellore prison

Two mobile phones were seized on Friday, when deputy inspector general of police (DIG) (prisons) P Govindarajan conducted a check of Vellore Central Prison for Men.

Sources in the prison said the DIG conducted the check as part of the week-long drive to seize banned gadgets from prisons. The officer found two cell phones which had been abandoned in the new block. The DIG also instructed the Superintendent of the Prison R Arivudainambe to step up the vigilance and intensify the drive to eradicate the use of cell phones by the inmates of the prison.

Earlier, the prison officials had seized 10 mobile phones, two SIM cards, a charger and four batteries during the drive on Monday and Tuesday, the official added.
