The supercentenarian, although she had no teeth, joined her relatives and sang a cinema song as well as several marriage songs, much to the enjoyment of all present.

She sang her favourite song -- MGR’s Neenga Nalla Irukanum Naadu Munnera, as well as Krishna Mukunda Murare. Earlier, she used to chewing betel leaf, but gave up the habit after her husband Rangasamy died fifteen years ago.

Nanjammal had six children. The family now has 120 members including grandchildren.

On the eve of her birthday, she wore a red saree and blouse and relatives took her to the local Pattathu Arasi Amman temple, where special pujas were also performed for her.

“She has seen five generations of family members in her life and she is happy with the way we are treating her. Now, we have to take care of her like a child,” said a relative.
