Replying to a question on the financial scheme by Congress MLA and former Education Minister K Lakshminarayanan during zero hour in the Assembly, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said only arrears of Perunthalivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme would be provided to the CENTAC students. Those admitted in the current year will have to wait until next year to get benefits of the scheme, the CM said, adding that the benefits of the scheme will be extended to those who have been admitted between 2009-2012.

CM said that a circular would be sent to all the colleges directing them to collect the fee after deducting the amount provided under the scheme. Congress MLA E Valsaraj suggested restructuring the scheme by limiting it to meritorious students and to those from economically backward strata.
