Engine disconnects, train gets delayed

The Kacheguda-Chennai Egmore Express from Kacheguda in Hyderabad was delayed by about half-an-hour shortly after it left Arakkonam Railway Junction early on Tuesday morning after the engine got disconnected from the coaches and started moving, leaving the coaches behind.

The train arrived on the fifth platform of the Arakkonam Junction at 4.55 am. When it left after a brief halt, the driver found that the engine was moving independently, leaving behind the coaches. The engine reportedly covered a distance of nearly 2 metres.

The crew immediately stopped the engine and it was found that the couplings connecting the engine to the coaches had got disconnected. The officials at the junction were alerted and personnel arrived to fix the problem. After a delay of about 30 minutes, the train left for Chennai.
