Professor, husband die in mishap

A young professor of Pachaiyappa’s College in Chennai and her husband were killed when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree along the Vellore-Arni Road near Saathumadurai, in the wee hours of Tuesday.

M Sathish Kumar (37), a civil engineer and a native of Sathuvachari in Vellore and his wife Bharathi (32), a professor at Pachaiyappa’s College, lived at Arumbakkam in Chennai, police said.

Kumar and his wife had gone to Tiruvannamalai to perform girivalam on Aadi Pournami on Monday. After offering prayers and completing girivalam, the couple was returning  to Chennai in their car. Police suspect that Kumar fell asleep when he was nearing Saathumadurai around 2 am on Tuesday. The car veered to the right and crashed into the tree. The couple died on the spot.
