No water for next 2 days in Vellore areas as Ponnai pipe snaps

Water supply to several areas in Vellore will be affected for the next two days due to a technical snag in the Ponnai pipeline. A break was detected in the pipeline, on Thursday.

Corporation officials said the pipeline from Ponnai river that passed through Sathuvachari carried water to various parts of Vellore. Around 10 am on Thursday, the pipeline that passed near Gandhi Nagar in Sathuvachari was found broken. The Corporation staff were immediately alerted and an operation launched to fix the pipeline.

Following this, officials said water supply to Velapadi, Thottapalayam, Saidapet, Vellore and some parts of Vasanthapuram would be suspended on Friday and Saturday. Most places did not receive water on Thursday. However, Sathuvachari was not affected as the area had received water in the morning, before the pipe snapped.

Water would be supplied to the affected areas through lorries and tankers for the next two days, engineer E Devakukmar said.
