Congress striving for welfare of minorities, says minister Vasan

The Congress-led UPA Government is protecting the interest of minorities and has implemented several schemes for their welfare, said Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan.

Addressing the gathering at a function organised by the Vaniyambadi Unit of Congress Youth Wing on Sunday in Vaniyambadi, he said, “The Congress government is keen to protect the interest of minorities. It has been working for the development and welfare of the minorities by implementing several welfare schemes.”

The Union Government has allocated Rs 3,515 crore for welfare schemes for minorities for the current fiscal year and Rs 1,543 crore was allocated for the same purpose the previous fiscal year, he said and urged the gathering to support the Congress in the coming Lok Sabha elections. 

Later in the day, Vasan also took part in a programme at the Golden Temple in Vellore.
