An anticipatory bail petition filed by ‘Attack’ Pandi, the prime accused in the politically sensational murder of Madurai-based DMK functionary ‘Pottu’ Suresh, was on Monday dismissed by the Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) as withdrawn.

Pandi, also a DMK cadre, has been on the run since February following the murder of Suresh, a key aide of former Union Minister M K Alagiri.

In his petition, Pandi sought anticipatory bail claiming that he was falsely implicated in the case. The police was hunting for him on the basis of the alleged confession made by some persons who had surrendered in connection with the murder case. These confessions, he claimed, were obtained by force.

Petitioner submitted that even if one were to go by these confessional statements, he was not present at the scene of the crime.
