AU order on AICTE nod challenged

An order of the Anna University (AU) insisting the SSM College of Engineering, Komarapalayam in Namakkal district, to produce approval order of the AICTE for affiliation, has been challenged in the Madras High Court.

A vacation bench of Justices K K Sasidharan and R Karuppaiah, before which the writ petition from the college came up for hearing on May 29, admitted it and ordered notice to the authorities concerned returnable by June 7.

According to advocate Kandhan Duraisami, the SSM Foundation Trust for Educational and Social Development started the college in 1998. The AICTE granted the approval and the AU affiliated the college, and the college has been  functioning for the past 15 years. While so, the AICTE refused approval for the year 2012-13 on unsustainable grounds. The college had moved HC, which directed the AICTE to consider and pass final orders on the plea from the college. Meanwhile, the AU insisted the college produce the approval order from the AICTE for renewal of affiliation. Hence, the present writ petition.
