Captain appeals in defamation case

DMDK leader A Vijayakant has moved the Madras High Court with a writ appeal, challenging the orders of a single judge, who dismissed his writ petition questioning a G.O. granting sanction to the Villupuram Assistant Public Prosecutor to file a defamation complaint against him. By a G.O. dated November 16 last year, the government had granted sanction to file a defamation complaint against Vijayakant for having delivered a speech, which was allegedly defamatory and derogatory, at a public meeting in Villupuram. Challenging this, Vijayakant filed a writ petition and a single judge on March 7 dismissed it. Hence, the present appeal. The actor-turned politician’s plea was dismissed on the ground that he ought to have moved a lower court.
