Relatives and neighbours of a 29-year-old woman, who hung herself to death at her house in Kothakottai village near Vaniyambadi on Wednesday, staged a road-roko on Thursday demanding the immediate arrest of her husband and father-in-law. However, police promised to take action, following which, they called off the protest.

The deceased was identified as Sangeetha of Mittanakuppam, who was married to Kumaresan (35) of Kothakottai village eight years ago.

After Sangeetha’s neighbours found her hanging around 6 pm on Wednesday, with burn injuries on her legs, they looked for her husband and in-laws, but none of them were in the village. On information her father and brother Sabari, reached the village and lodged a complaint with the Vaniyambadi Taluk police. In the complaint, Sabari stated that his brother-in-law and family members had frequently harassed his sister demanding more dowry.
