Residents of R N Palayam near Kasba tied a 24-year-old youth to an electrical pole and beat him here after he allegedly attempted to molest a 10-year-old girl during the early hours on Saturday.
On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and rescued the youth.
Sathish (24), a resident of Bire Line in Kasba was alleged to have entered a house at R N Palayam around 4 am on Saturday, after which he attempted to molest the 10-year-old girl, who was asleep in the house.
Hearing her cries for help, family members and locals rushed to the spot and apprehended him.
Locals tied him to a pole and beat him up. He was rescued by police.
Following this, police attached to the All Women Police Station filed a case and arrested him.
He was later given first aid. Sathish was remanded to the Vellore Central Prison for Men on Saturday evening.
