Several houses in Vagurappanpatti panchayat near Morappur, have at least one widow.

“Most of them lost their spouse to the arrack. However, now the situation is changing. Due to police vigil, there are no arrack shops in the village and surrounding hamlets,” said a village administrative official.

“Of course, the situation was worse earlier. However, now the arrack menace has been eliminated and we are monitoring child marriages too. In this panchayat, child marriages too have not taken place in the past few years,” said K Ramajeyam, village panchayat president.
